On Friday, November 8, 2024, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, community members are invited to join a celebration of the significant progress of the Let’s Dephrag the Marsh! project in the management of Invasive Phragmites at the McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve. Participants will gather at the McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve Trail entrance located at the south end of the parking lot at the southern end of Townline Road South.
This event marks a collaborative effort supported by a generous donation from the Ontario Great Lakes Local Action Fund in 2022. It will also serve as an opportunity to express gratitude to Acting Minister Todd McCarthy, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, for his support.
The celebration coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Love the Marsh! fundraising campaign, which has successfully raised over $50,000 to further educational, interpretative and stewardship efforts in the McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve and Second Marsh. Additionally, attendees will witness the launch of the Love the Marsh Art! initiative, showcasing donated artworks from acclaimed Impressions of Nature artist, Terry Gill.
Please join us in celebrating our collective efforts to engage and educate people about this incredible natural resource in our community and about what needs to be done to protect it. Together, we can ensure a healthy environment for future generations.
